The name Nasseruddin Shah is synonymous to a power house of inexhaustible talent. His inimitable contribution in the field of cinema has gained him national & international popularity as well 2 of the most prestigious awards in India, Padma Shree & Padmabhusan. Although Nasserudin Shah is known as one of the most prominent personalities of Indian parallel cinema, he has played even mainstream roles with matchless élan. It is a treat to watch him in cinema and more so in the interactive medium of theatre.
The celebrated actor will soon grace the UAE theatres where he will essay the role of the famous scientist in the play, ‘Einstein’. Penned by Gabriel Emanuel, and directed by Shah, the play will introduce audience to a different side of the scientist, with Shah taking his audience on an intellectual and entertaining ride across the various features of Einstein’s life rarely explored. An offering of the prestigious Indian theatre group Motley Productions, the English-language play will make its international debut in the UAE this January from 28 to 30.
- Watch the living legend re-live the life of a legend in Abu Dhabi and Dubai theatres from January 28 to 30
- 75 minutes of nonstop, mesmerizing performance, as the actor reveals the different facets of Einstein’s personality to the audience
While the world remembers Einstein as the intellectual who gifted us the theory of relativity, Shah’s Einstein strikes a chord with audience for his more approachable nature. This is a man besieged with troubles and disappointments and the guilt for his inadvertent share in creating the bomb that caused destruction in World War II. Einstein the common man is as likely to be affected by everyday life as the man next door and the play explores the life of a scientist in connection with his family, his childhood, parenthood, religious beliefs and his journey to America from Germany. The 75-minute play portrays Einstein in his truest spirit, with Naseeruddin Shah’s solo performance putting life into the scientist’s character rarely given a thought beyond his love for facts and figures. Shah’s resemblance to Einstein in looks further adds to the play’s aura, giving it a surreal feeling of a face-to-face with the scientist.

Dimple Mitra of ADSS, who brought the play to Dubai, said: “Naseeruddin Shah’s fan following knows no bounds, and as an actor and director he doesn’t need an introduction. His theatre group, Motley productions has always courted plays that trigger intellectual stimulation, a policy that ADSS completely identifies with. In ‘Einstein’ we will see Shah taking on a challenge of portraying a character whose one facet is so deeply imbedded in our minds, and he does a remarkable job of capturing the audience’s attention single-handedly. We take pride in our association with an event that vibrates with such intellectual content, and yet reaches out to diverse audience due to its simple execution.”
