The Pingtung County Government brings “Pingtung Premium Agricultural Products” to Dubai for the first time. Offering a selection of top quality fruits from the city located in Southern Taiwan, introducing them to Dubai’s distributors and consumers at the Dubai Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market.
With a land area of over 2,775 square kilometers, Pingtung is the fifth largest county in Taiwan. Pingtung County is well known for having one of the warmest climates in the country. It has a perfect balance of sunshine and rain, allowing the county to offer a wide range of quality fruits.
A large amount of Taiwan’s production of pineapples comes from Pingtung County. The pineapples grown here are known for their high quality and are best eaten fresh. This beautiful golden colored fruit is very juicy and sweet, making it popular.
Pingtung County is titled the ‘Hometown of Lemon’ as it is home to the largest producers of lemon in Taiwan. Lemons are a good source of essential nutrients. Having a glass of cold lemon juice on a hot day is said to be very refreshing. Lemon juice also assists in weight loss and boosts one’s immune system.
Another rare fruit originating from Central America is the dragon fruit. Taiwan has been growing dragon fruits since a decade ago. Rich in vitamin C, B1, B2 and B3, and minerals such as iron, calcium, and phosphorus, the dragon fruit is definitely one of the best “super fruits” out there.
Guava is extremely high in fiber while being rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals, offering resistance to cholesterol with a low number of digestible carbohydrates. This filling snack is low in sugar and fat, satisfying consumer’s demand.
Other rare and intriguing produce are rose petals and Shikuwasa juice. The rose flower offer consumers with numerous health benefits they are often unaware of. This flower has a positive holistic effect on your body, mind and skin and has been used since ancient times. The roses in “Grand Blossom Grange” are grown through organic farming methods. Rose essence is rich in tannins, antioxidants, and vitamins making it beneficial in skin care while also being popular in cooking and making tea. The Shikuwasa (Citrus depressa Hayata) also known as the Taiwan Flat Lemon, is a popular citrus fruit cultivated in Pingtung. According to a Japanese study, the Shikuwasa juice is high in Nobiletin. The bottled Shikuwasa juice can be preserved for 8 months at room temperature. It is a great choice for making beverages and is also used to garnish dishes.
“This is the first time Pingtung Government will be promoting its produce in the Middle East. We look forward to exploring potential markets.” says Mr. Pan Men-An, the Magistrate of Pingtung County.
“Agriculture and fisheries are the two most important industries in Pingtung County. Pingtung has many premium products. Other than exporting to China and Japan, the Canadian market is also doing well this year. With Expo 2020 coming to Dubai, a large number of people are expected to be coming to the region, making the Middle East an important market.”
