Dunkirk at NOVO Cinema
We could hardly contain our excitement on being invited to the premiere of the movie Dunkirk at NOVO Cinema, in Dubai Festival City. Christopher Nolan, the legendary director of The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar depicts the distressing reality of war in the movie. Based on true facts, the movie is about the trapped British & French soldiers harrowing evacuation from the beaches of Dunkirk, as they face the powerful German army.
The movie portrays the stark realities and is stripped of any dramatization. War is without a human face and that is what screams out loud to the audience. The restrained acting, stunning visuals & music succeed in conveying the suspense, fear, and emotions. There is little dialogue in the movie but with death staring in the face, surviving is the only thing in mind. Nolan’s script is from three separate perspectives, namely Land, Sea and Air. The film features Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy. The helplessness and distress of the soldiers hunts the audience long after they leave the movie hall.
Subtle yet moving bits from the movie will stay on with Buzzingtales. As the soldiers return home they are greeted by a blind commoner distributing blankets and congratulating them, “Well, done.” A young soldier retorted, “What did we do? We just survived!” The blind man replies, “That’s enough!”
We are happy that NOVO Cinema enriched our movie experience. We loved the comfortable seats, the grand hall, the delicious popcorn and the refreshing drinks as we sat at the edge of our seats through the nerve wreaking scenes.
